Providence sits at the head of Narragansett Bay, where the tidal Providence and Seekonk rivers join. South and east of the city, Warwick has Greenwich Bay and its coves, Cranston has the Edgewood and Pawtuxet shore, and Barrington and Riverside front Bullock Cove and the Barrington River. For owners on those shores we supply and fit the fence side of a waterfront lot: posts, railings, gates, brackets and fasteners for docks, piers, seawalls and the yard that leads down to them.
Salt decides most of the choices here. Plain steel screws and hinges rust fast near the bay, so we use hot-dip galvanized or stainless hardware, aluminum railing and vinyl or pressure-treated posts rated for wet ground. Inland, freshwater lots on Georgiaville Pond and Stillwater Reservoir in Smithfield are gentler on metal, but ice and spring high water still work on anything set at the edge. We size gates and rail heights for the way you use the dock, including keeping children and dogs off it.
We do not set the rules for the water, and neither do you. In Rhode Island the Coastal Resources Management Council reviews docks, piers and other work along tidal shoreline, and the Department of Environmental Management oversees freshwater ponds and wetlands. A city harbor office or a pond association may add its own limits. Check what your permit or assent allows before ordering parts. We build fences, railings and gates. We do not build marinas or boats.
Dock parts in Providence: common questions
Which waters near Providence do you work around?
Mostly Narragansett Bay shoreline in Warwick, Cranston, East Providence and Barrington, plus the Providence, Seekonk and Pawtuxet rivers. We also work on freshwater lots such as Georgiaville Pond in Smithfield.
Do I need approval to add a railing or gate to my dock?
Often yes. On tidal water the Coastal Resources Management Council decides what a dock may have, so ask them or check your existing assent first.
What hardware holds up in salt air?
Stainless steel and hot-dip galvanized fasteners last far longer than plain or electro-plated steel. Aluminum railing and vinyl also cope well with spray off the bay.
